New Jersey car accidents: Garbage truck hits and kills pedestrian

On Behalf of Fishman & Fishman, LLC | Feb 13, 2017 | Car Accidents |

Pedestrian accidents in New Jersey are an all too common thing. In one of the most recent to occur, a man was killed when he was hit by a garbage truck. Fatal truck and car accidents can leave surviving family members both financially and emotionally devastated. Thankfully, according to the state, they may have legal recourse.

In the early morning hours of Feb. 3, a man was struck and killed by a garbage truck that was traveling southbound on Avenue C. The crash happened in Bayonne near West 55th Street. The identity of the victim has not been reported to the public.

The identity of the truck driver believed responsible for this incident has also not been released. At this time, police have not indicated if any charges are pending against this individual. The investigation into this incident is still ongoing.

Over time, as a result of the investigative process, more details about what caused this auto-pedestrian collision will come to light. If any negligent actions on the part of the truck driver are discovered, he or she and his or her employer may be held accountable for this incident. The family members of victims killed in car accidents may, according to the laws of New Jersey, seek compensation for their losses. This can be done by filing and litigating wrongful death and other applicable claims in civil court. Litigation that proves successful can result in the loved ones of deceased victims receiving monetary judgments as compensation for those losses that are deemed legally recoverable.
