New Jersey car accidents: child hit by car

Police in New Jersey are currently investigating the cause of an auto-pedestrian accident that left a child seriously injured. This incident occurred in Monroe on the afternoon of Nov. 4. It is always sad to hear of car accidents involving children, as their little bodies are so greatly affected by such incidents, which are generally life-changing.

According to a recent report, the driver of an SUV was headed southbound on Old Forge Road when she allegedly struck the child who was riding his bike. The 12-year-old boy is said to have suffered a severe head injury. He was taken to a medical center in New Brunswick for treatment. There have not been any updates on his condition or prognosis.

The driver -- a 50-year-old woman -- was not injured in the wreck. Police have not stated whether any charges are pending in this case. Investigators are asking witnesses to the crash to share any information they may have.

As is true after most auto-pedestrian car accidents, this boy's family may -- if negligence is suspected on the driver's part -- pursue a civil action in an effort to seek compensation for their losses. By filing and litigating personal injury and any other appropriate claims in a New Jersey civil court, the victim and his family may be granted a monetary judgment for any and all economic and non-economic damages that are considered legally recoverable. These damages might include the victim's current and future medical and rehabilitation expenses, disability care -- if needed -- and any other losses suffered by his family while tending to his care.
