The dangers of working in the construction industry

Working in the construction industry can bring a lot of joy to your life. Unfortunately, it’s also a dangerous industry that can result in serious injury when you least expect it.

There are many types of accidents that can occur on a construction site, including but not limited to the following:

  • Falls. There are two primary types of falls: slips and falls on the ground and falls from height. Both are every bit as dangerous as they sound.
  • Falling objects. With construction workers working at height, there is always a chance that something could fall from above and strike a person standing below.
  • Equipment accidents. If you have spent any time on a construction site, you know that there are many types of equipment in use. While this equipment can speed up the job, it can also cause injury.
  • Building collapses. While not common, a building collapse is one of the most serious types of construction site accidents. If a building falls while a person is inside, it can result in injury or even death.
  • Repetitive motion injury. This is the type of injury that sets in over time, as the result of completing the same task day after day. An example of this is someone who lifts heavy objects above his or her head, thus developing a shoulder or elbow injury.

These are just a few of the things that can cause injury on a construction site. As a construction worker, you need to be aware of these potential accidents, so that you can protect yourself accordingly. For example, there are safety systems and safety gear that can help prevent trouble.

If you are part of a construction accident, don’t hesitate to seek medical attention. You should also report the accident and your injuries to your employer.

In the event that you are unable to return to work, it’s time to file a claim for workers’ compensation benefits. The money you receive can help you get by while you recover, with the hope of returning to your job as soon as possible.
