Police step up patrols to combat drunk driving accidents

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can have deadly results. Alcohol can decrease a person’s judgment behind the wheel, slowing reaction time and hindering the ability to control a vehicle. Across the United States in 2014, one-third of all drunk driving accidents resulted in fatalities. Drunk driving remains a significant concern in New Jersey and across the country.

Police in New Jersey are adding additional patrols to crack down on drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. When a motorist gets behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or drugs, it often results in tragedy. The program is called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” and it is funded by a grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety.

Lacey Township in New Jersey has a zero tolerance for drunk driving. The police chief stated that drivers who are caught operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or impaired by drugs will be arrested. A first-time offense may result in driver’s license suspension, towing and impound fees, fines and possible jail time. He recommends having a designated driver or using public transportation after drinking.

In New Jersey, police are adamant about preventing drunk driving accidents. Officers in Lacey Township, having seen a number of fatalities from drunk driving crashes, plan to continue their patrols to detect and deter offenders. When someone is injured or killed in a drunk driving accident, victims — or the surviving families of deceased victims — may benefit from the guidance and support of a skilled personal injury attorney.
