New Jersey cracks down on drunk driving accidents

On Behalf of Fishman & Fishman, LLC | Dec 4, 2017 | Drunk Driving Accidents |

Sobriety patrol and checkpoints are in full force to get drunk drivers off the road. In New Jersey, Morris Plains Police have started a year-end campaign to crack down on intoxicated drivers. The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” saturation patrol’s main goal is to reduce the rate of drunk driving accidents.

Over the past five years, New Jersey has seen a spike in 40,000 alcohol-related crashes resulting in 750 deaths. A police lieutenant added that it is critical that law enforcement implement a program that will save lives, especially at this time of the year when impaired driving increases by 10 percent. Last year, 20 percent of all fatal crashes involved drunk driving.

Police suggest taking mass transit or taxicabs after drinking or designating a sober driver before heading out for the evening. Arranging for overnight accommodations where an activity or party is being held is another way to avoid hitting the roads impaired. When traveling on foot, call a cab or have a sober friend or family member drive.

Drunk driving can have devastating consequences for everyone involved. Anyone who suspects an impaired driver on the road should call the police. This action may save someone’s life, but inaction could result in loss of life. In New Jersey, when lives are negatively impacted as the result of drunk driving accidents, it may be in the party’s best interest to contact a keen and savvy personal injury attorney. An astute lawyer can work with the injured parties in pursuit of compensation.
