Car chases may cause more car accidents

On Behalf of | Nov 7, 2017 | Car Accidents |

Some drivers take over the road for their own amusement or thrills while giving little thought to the safety of others. Case in point, two drivers were apparently chasing each other at high speeds through a residential neighborhood in New Jersey. The quiet night was then interrupted by the sound of a car crashing into someone’s home. Car accidents of this nature put everyone in jeopardy, not just those on the road.

An elderly woman was enjoying a peaceful evening at home when the accident occurred. Authorities said a car came crashing through the house and burst into flames. The woman, whose identity is unknown, lives on Ridgefield Avenue in Ridgefield Park. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and no information regarding her condition was available.

Police believe the crash happened when one car involved in the chase lost control and slammed into the house. One driver freed himself from the wreck and went inside the house to help the elderly victim to safety. That driver is now in police custody. Firefighters responded to the scene and were able to contain the fire within a short time.

Car accidents like this can cause innocent victims mountains of hospital bills and home repairs costs. The financial burden along with the emotional and physical recovery they may face can be devastating. It may be in a victim’s best interest to contact a personal injury attorney. In New Jersey, an incisive lawyer will examine the evidence and build a case seeking compensation for the injured party.
