Drunk driving accidents: 3-car crash injures 2 adults, 1 child

A New Jersey driver was arrested, and he is waiting to learn the full extent of the charges against him. Authorities said further charges were pending the receipt of the results of toxicology tests to determine the level of his alleged impairment during an incident that occurred on a recent Wednesday. The crash happened similarly as many other drunk driving accidents in which impaired drivers cannot maintain lane control.

According to a police report, a 49-year-old driver was arrested for an accident that he allegedly caused on July 5. Shortly before 6 p.m. on that day, the accused driver was apparently northbound on a road in the area of Raritan Township. He failed to stay in his lane of travel, and his vehicle crossed into the opposite lanes over the double yellow lines.

His car struck a southbound sedan, causing it to spin into an SUV that was following behind it. The SUV was driven by a 63-year-old driver from another state. The drivers of both cars and a child who was a passenger in the SUV were transported to a hospital. None of the injuries were reported to be critical or life-threatening. The at-fault driver was ticketed for reckless driving, failure to maintain control of his lane and for having unsealed alcoholic beverages in the car.

Injured victims of drunk driving accidents in New Jersey are entitled to pursue financial relief to cover medical expenses, ambulance fees and other financial losses such as lost wages. Emotional damages like pain and suffering can also form part of the documented claims presented for the court’s adjudication when victims file personal injury claims in a civil court. They will need to establish negligence, which may be a challenging task if done without the help of an experienced personal injury attorney.
