New Jersey car accidents: 1 killed in head-on collision

On Behalf of Fishman & Fishman, LLC | Dec 23, 2016 | Car Accidents |

New Jersey state police are investigating the cause of a fatal head-on collision. One life was claimed in the crash. The driver deemed responsible is said to have survived the incident. When car accidents have fatal outcomes, the victim’s surviving family members may have legal recourse.

According to reports, a 61-year-old male was killed when his vehicle was struck head-on by another car. The victim was driving in the northbound lane of Route 94, when the driver of a Kia — a 35-year-old female — crossed the center line for reasons unknown. The victim died at the scene of the crash.

At this time, no charges have been filed against the driver believed responsible. Authorities do not seem to think that drugs or alcohol use contributed to this incident. The investigation into this matter is still ongoing.

Fatal car accidents leave the loved ones of victims hurting in many ways. While there is nothing that can make a situation like this any easier to bear emotionally, the state of New Jersey does allow surviving family members to seek compensation for their losses, which can help with any resulting financial burdens. In this case, wrongful death actions may be filed against the driver thought responsible. If proof of negligence can be established in court, a monetary judgment may be awarded to cover any and all recoverable damages, whether they be economic, such as funeral expenses and lost wages and benefits, or non-economic, such as loss of companionship, mental anguish and loss of consortium.
