New Jersey workers’ compensation: Employee injured in explosion

On Behalf of Fishman & Fishman, LLC | Sep 12, 2016 | Workers' Compensation |

A New Jersey man who was working at a construction site was recently injured in an explosion. This incident is said to have occurred Sept. 7, in Egg Harbor Township. He was the only employee injured in the event. Per state laws, he may file workers’ compensation claims in an effort to assist him medically and financially throughout his recovery.

According to reports, the construction worker was in the process of transferring fuel from old underground tanks into new tanks located above-ground. While getting one of the older tanks ready to be cleaned, the man was working on cutting a hole in the opening. During this process, sparks from his cutting device apparently fell into the tank and, ultimately, caused the explosion.

As a result of the explosion, the worker was thrown approximately 5 feet from his initial position, and he is said to have suffered burns to his arms and torso. He was transported to a hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been reported. A witness to the event claims that flames rose approximately 30 feet in the air following the explosion. Thankfully, no one else was hurt, and no other damage to the construction site or neighboring school occurred.

Burn injuries can be extremely difficult from which to recover. The pain can be excruciating and the potential for infection is high. Following treatment, the victim may be left scarred, both physically and emotionally, or even disabled if his injuries are severe. Workers’ compensation insurance benefits are in place to help employees in New Jersey, like this gentleman, who have suffered injuries while on the job. An experienced attorney can help this individual fight for maximum compensation which, if granted, will allow him place his focus on taking care of himself and worry less about medical and financial concerns.
