Recent New Jersey car accidents: Unlicensed teen driver kills 1

On Behalf of Fishman & Fishman, LLC | May 18, 2016 | Car Accidents |

A young flight attendant lost her life recently after being run down by an unlicensed teen driver, a prosecutor said. The accident occurred in Newark on a recent Tuesday in early May. When New Jersey residents are killed in car accidents due to the fault of another driver, their loved ones often seek financial relief in a civil court.

The 25-year-old female flight attendant was struck by a 17-year-old male teen as she was walking down a Newark sidewalk. The accident occurred around 7:20 p.m. The woman was rushed to a local hospital, but died there the next day.

The teen driver is now facing a charge of vehicular homicide and being an unlicensed driver in connection with this fatal accident. The prosecutor noted that the homicide charge was based on the teen’s manner of driving at the time of the accident, which was referred to as reckless. The investigation is currently ongoing.

If the prosecutor secures a conviction on one of the criminal charges related to this fatal accident, proof of the conviction might be offered as evidence of the driver’s negligence in a wrongful death suit, should one be filed in a New Jersey civil court by the decedent’s surviving family. Successfully navigated, a wrongful death suit can result in the entry of a monetary judgment for documented financial damages, such as end of life expenses. Those who lose loved ones in similar car accidents are often best served by consulting experienced personal injury attorneys as soon after the tragedies as possible.
