Recent New Jersey car accidents: 1 fatally struck

On Behalf of | May 12, 2016 | Car Accidents |

A pedestrian was recently struck and killed in a New Jersey car accident. The Hudson County accident occurred in Bayonne on a recent Wednesday afternoon in April, police said. When New Jersey residents are killed in similar car accidents, their loved ones are typically entitled to file wrongful death claims against the party or parties believed to be responsible.

The 43-year-old Jersey City man was either in the process of getting into his vehicle or was in the vicinity of it when a car struck him, the Bayonne police lieutenant said. The man was pronounced dead at the accident scene. The accident occurred around 2:15 p.m., police said.

Currently, there are not any other reports of any other individuals suffering injuries in relation to this collision. Also, no one has yet been arrested in connection with this tragedy. Police are still in the process of completing their investigation.

This fatal car accident is considered a hit-and-run case. Once the missing driver is located, it is likely that criminal charges will be filed against him or her. If prosecutors secure a conviction on a criminal charge related to this accident, the conviction might be offered as evidence of negligence in a related wrongful death suit, should one be filed in a New Jersey civil court by the decedent’s loved ones. Successfully navigated, this type of suit can result in the entry of a monetary judgment for documented damages. Those who lose loved ones in similar types of car accidents are best served by consulting an experienced personal injury attorney as soon after the tragedy as possible.
