A construction worker was killed in an out-of-state job site accident recently. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is now investigating the causes of the worker’s death. When workers are killed on the job in New Jersey, their loved ones are typically entitled to submit a workers’ compensation claim for death benefits to help them with various financial matters related to victim’s passing.
The deceased worker was an employee of a construction company. The death occurred on Nov. 21. OSHA issued a statement on the Tuesday following the tragedy, which occurred on a Saturday.
According to the initial reports, the construction worker had been standing in a three-sided box that was resting on a tractor’s forks. He fell out of the box, a distance of about 11 feet, after which the box fell and struck him on his head. The victim was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital in Missouri but was later pronounced dead that same day.
The workers’ compensation program in New Jersey typically provide death benefits to the immediate surviving family members of deceased workers — for example, a child, spouse, sibling, or parent — and who were also financially dependent on that individual. The main purpose of this benefit is to compensate family members for their loss of financial support. It is often used to help defray some of the end-of-life expenses typically incurred by the decedent’s family, including medical bills and burial costs.
