Workers’ compensation likely for man who fell 3 stories

| Oct 8, 2015 | Workers' Compensation |

Work accidents at New Jersey construction sites happen with such frequency that they seem to be a fact of everyday life. Due to the use of heavy equipment, the heights to which workers must often climb as well as other dangerous aspects of construction work, it is no wonder that accidents occur — even on the safest of job sites. A recent construction accident resulted in a worker being injured and may lead the individual to file for workers’ compensation.

The accident occurred in downtown Jersey City on a recent Monday in October. A 33-year-old construction worker climbed a ladder and proceeded to step on plywood that, for reasons unknown, collapsed beneath his weight. The site foreman indicated that this caused the man to three stories — about 30 feet — to the ground.

EMTs and Jersey City Fire Department workers treated the injured man at the construction site. Police arrived shortly thereafter, around 12:30 p.m. The worker complained of back pain. He was taken to a local medical center, where an initial diagnosis indicated that he had suffered a possible mid-back fracture.

Anyone who is injured on the job in New Jersey has the right to seek legal advice and assistance. In the case of this construction accident, the injured worker is likely entitled to submit a workers’ compensation claim in order to recoup the financial losses incurred due to the accident, such as lost pay as well as medical expenses and related costs. Many workers in similar circumstances seek professional assistance in navigating the claims process.
