Recent New Jersey drunk driving accidents: Drunk driver flees

On Behalf of | Sep 3, 2015 | Drunk Driving Accidents |

Although car accidents can occur in the blink of an eye, their effects can be far-reaching. When drunk driving accidents occur, the injuries suffered and/or lives taken by such an accident leave victims or their families wondering why the other individual chose to drink and drive. A recent alleged drunk driving accident in New Jersey sent one victim to the hospital.

The accident occurred in Hudson County in late August. It involved two vehicles and happened shortly after 3:20 a.m. According to the police, a 32-year-old man’s vehicle collided with a 29-year-old woman’s vehicle after he ran a red light.

After the collision, he attempted to flee from the accident’s scene. He did not get far, though, and was soon caught by local police, according to the report. Both drivers were rushed to a local medical center for treatment, and the man is now facing drunk driving charges.

When individuals in New Jersey are on the receiving end of drunk driving accidents and are seriously injured, they are entitled to file a personal injury claim against the other driver. If the other driver’s negligence is proved and the claim is successfully navigated, a court may award financial damages to the victim (or the victim’s family in the event of a fatal accident). This compensation is often allotted for monetary losses incurred due to the accident, such as lost pay as well as hospital bills and other financial losses. To begin this process, victims typically consult an experienced personal injury attorney to assess the validity of their claim.
