Drunk driving accidents and their victims

A drunk driving accident can happen any time of day. However, residents of New Jersey are aware that most occur late at night. Sometimes drunk driving accidents injure police officers, many of whom spend a considerable amount of time patrolling the roads late at night to ensure everyone’s safety.

Alcohol may have played a part in a recent car accident in Hanover. The accident occurred in the middle of June during the early morning hours. It resulted in three law enforcement officials sustaining injuries — two were minor, while the other was more serious.

A Hanover police officer had just arrived at the scene of an accident to assist two State Troopers when he noticed a small SUV rapidly approaching his vehicle from behind. Knowing the two State Troopers were in front of him, he decided not to move his vehicle and, instead, braced himself. This brave action may have saved the two State Troopers’ lives. However, the collision resulted in the police officer sustaining serious injuries that required him being rushed to a local medical center. The 29-year-old driver of the SUV was allegedly operating her vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

In drunk driving accidents in New Jersey, when it is proved that a driver is injured due to the negligence of the other driver, they are often entitled to file a personal injury claim. Successfully filed, it can help defray costs associated with the accident. Contacting an experienced personal injury lawyer can help the victim evaluate if they have a viable case.
