Drunk driving accidents: Man dies in chain-reaction crash

A man is dead because of injuries he sustained in a multi-car crash involving a drunk driver. The driver who caused the collision is facing a multitude of charges, including vehicular homicide. The state of New Jersey takes drunk driving accidents very seriously and imposes harsh penalties on people who break the law.

Police report that the crash occurred around 4:00 p.m. at a busy intersection in Readington Township. The man was driving northbound when a pickup truck driven by a Connecticut resident plowed into the back of his car, causing him to strike another vehicle. Emergency personnel transported the 57-year-old man to Hunterdon Medical Center where he later died. No other injuries were reported.

The driver of the pickup truck has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide in connection with the DUI wreck. He has also been charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving. He is being held in the Somerset County jail. Authorities cannot stress enough the importance of driving with care and awareness. They also remind drivers of the adverse effects and life-altering dangers of consuming alcohol and operating a motor vehicle.

Family and friends are suffering during this difficult time and will forever remember the devastation of the accident. In New Jersey, those who cause drunk driving accidents may be held liable through civil lawsuits and required to provide restitution to the victim’s family. Family members can pursue legal actions by contacting a personal injury attorney. A lawyer will evaluate their options, answer questions and guide them through the process.
