Car accidents involving dump trucks are often fatal

An entire family is mourning the loss of their loved ones after a horrific crash that occurred recently. New Jersey State Police confirmed that the accident occurred on Route 80 in Mount Olive near exit 25 at about 4:30 p.m. In New Jersey, car accidents such as this may require further investigation to determine responsibility, and, even if no criminal charges end up being filed, those deemed materially responsible for the accident can be held liable in a civil court.

A 52-year-old husband and his 49-year-old wife were traveling westbound when a dump truck traveling in the eastbound lane blew a tire. The driver lost control of the dump truck, causing it to swerve across the median and into the path of the couple’s pickup truck. The couple was pronounced dead at the scene.

The dump truck also hit a box truck before overturning and coming to rest in the westbound lanes. Neither the condition of the dump truck driver or the box truck driver was available. It is not clear what may have caused the dump truck’s tire to blow out, and police had no additional information about the accident.

The heartbreak that this family is going through is unimaginable. Car accidents of this magnitude often leave families trying to comprehend what may have happened to their loved ones in those final moments. The costs of two funerals and the loss of income will likely cause massive financial hardships for the surviving family members for years to come. In New Jersey, those who have lost loved ones in car accidents may consult with a personal injury attorney to determine if there is cause to pursue a civil case.
