Losing a family member and his beloved dog in a senseless accident is heartbreaking. Today a family is mourning the loss of their loved one and the family pet. The two were killed in a horrific crash Friday night when two separate vehicles on a New Jersey highway struck his car. According to a news release, the multi-car accident closed the roadway for hours that night and into the next morning. Car accidents such as this can leave families devastated.
Authorities said the 71-year-old man was driving eastbound on the highway when his car was rammed from behind by a pickup truck. The impact of the crash propelled the man's vehicle into oncoming traffic, and he was struck again by an SUV. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The driver of the pickup truck and his passengers were not injured.
Because the accident occurred near the boundaries of Neptune and Tinton Falls, several departments including the Serious Collision Analysis Response Team of Monmouth County and the Tinton Falls Police Department are involved. The Monmouth County Prosecutors Office is asking anyone with information about the crash to please call the hotline number. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Tragic car accidents such as this are preventable and losing a loved one is a traumatic experience for everyone involved. Families will suffer additional emotional distress and financial hardship having to bury one of their own. In New Jersey, those who have lost family members due to the negligence of others may be entitled to compensation. An astute personal injury attorney can examine the evidence and determine if there is a case to pursue.
