Police in New Jersey have arrested the man they say is responsible for causing a fatal crash the evening of Sept. 12. This individual was reportedly impaired and fleeing from police when his vehicle collided with another car. Sadly, it is not uncommon for such circumstances to result in car accidents -- fatal or otherwise.
According to a recent report, a 22-year-old male was reportedly seen involved in a drug deal by police. When authorities attempted to pull over this individual's SUV, he failed to comply and led police on a chase in Hamilton Township. During this event, the accused T-boned another vehicle when he ran a red light, pinning the victim's vehicle against a telephone pole. The 22-year-old female had to be rescued from her car before she could be transported to medical treatment. Sadly, she died upon her arrival at a hospital in Trenton.
The man deemed responsible for this incident was arrested shortly after the crash occurred. He is facing numerous charges for the incident, including DUI resulting in death, heroin possession, eluding police and driving with a suspended license -- among various others. At this time, it is unknown if any court dates have been scheduled regarding this matter.
Losing a loved one under any circumstances is difficult to overcome. When these losses come in such senseless ways, such as in car accidents caused by impaired drivers, it can be even more challenging with which to cope. While the individual believed responsible for this particular incident may be held criminally liable for the event, the victim's loved ones may also wish to pursue civil claims in an attempt to seek compensation for any damages sustained. Wrongful death and survival action claims may be filed in a New Jersey court for this purpose. If successful, a monetary judgment may be granted.
