Drunk driving accidents: drunk driver rear-ends another

On Behalf of | Jul 30, 2015 | Drunk Driving Accidents |

According to officers with the Bayonne Police Department, a New Jersey man is now facing driving while intoxicated charges after his vehicle rear-ended another vehicle while traveling at full speed last week. Many of the drunk driving accidents that occur often result in serious injuries or end tragically. Both drivers were sent to a local medical center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a 38-year-old man, has been charged with reckless driving, driving while intoxicated as well as failure to wear a seat belt. He had crashed his pickup truck into a small passenger vehicle that had been waiting to make a left hand turn, according to the police. According to witnesses, the driver was operating the vehicle at full speed when the accident occurred.

The fact that he never slowed down caused extensive and heavy front-end damage to his truck as well as heavy rear damage for the passenger car. The alleged drunk driver was rendered unconscious as a result of the crash and was transported to a local medical center. The victim, a 46-year-old man, was transported to a separate medical center, according to the authorities.

If drivers who cause drunk driving accidents are found guilty and recklessness is proved, victims, such as the man in this case, will be entitled to file personal injury claims against the drunk driver. In New Jersey, when this type of claim is successfully filed, the compensation derived from it can be used to lessen some of the financial expenses that the victim may have encountered, including time spent in the hospital as well as lost pay due to being unable to work. An experienced personal injury attorney can help a victim identify whether or not he or she has a valid case.
