Residents of New Jersey can attest that they spend a great deal of time in their cars. With all of that time spent driving, it seems that the occasional traffic accident is a given, if unfortunate, event of everyday life. Many car accidents are not preventable, but drunk driving accidents are a different story.
A 34-year-old New Jersey woman is currently facing drunk driving charges as well as a number of other charges in relation to a drunk driving accident she caused recently. According to the authorities, the woman fled after causing a hit and run that occurred on the Garden State Parkway. The local authorities were alerted about an erratic driver at around 10:28 a.m. that morning.
Shortly thereafter, the police were able to locate the vehicle in question. After a preliminary investigation, the woman was arrested for DUI. She received an additional charge for DUI with a minor passenger and four other charges: reckless driving, having a suspended license, operating an uninsured vehicle and operating an unregistered vehicle, according to the local police.
Drunk driving accidents can have serious consequences, including loss of driving privileges and even incarceration. When a person in the state of New Jersey is charged with DUI, an attorney who specializes in the practice of criminal defense as well as drunk driving defense might be able to help. An attorney is experienced with the potential outcomes of the charge and can act expediently to try to prevent the defendant from losing his or her license and can ensure that the defendant's rights are protected.
