A tragic accident in New Jersey claimed the life of one young man and left two other individuals injured. According to authorities, impairment played a role in this incident. When drunk driving accidents like this occur, those injured and the surviving family members of the deceased may have legal recourse.

On the morning of Dec. 26, a 32-year-old male was driving his vehicle in the wrong direction on Route 46 — in the Clifton area — when he crashed with a Honda SUV. Sadly, the driver of the SUV failed to survive the incident. Two passengers in his car did, however, and were transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries.

Authorities are still in the process of investigating this incident. The party deemed responsible for this tragic crash has been arrested, though, and is facing numerous charges as a result. These charges include DUI, reckless driving and assault by auto. Bail has been set in his case at $250,000.

Sadly, it is not uncommon for drunk driving accidents to have outcomes like this one. Numerous people in New Jersey suffer injuries or lose loved ones in DUI-related collisions every year. When such incidents occur, those negatively affected may pursue legal claims against those believed responsible. In this case, the injured victims and the decedent’s loved ones may file personal injury, wrongful death and any other applicable civil claims in court in an effort to recoup their losses. An experienced attorney can assist with this process and will work to achieve maximum compensation for the client.
